Water damaged parts replacement
I was brought in on this 80′ Azimut to replace some parts that had been water damaged. There was a problem with condensation from the galley fridge which was repaired and now they were looking to get the woodwork squared away. There were 3 smaller base pieces to be replaced as well as one of the four fridge doors in the galley.
Removal of existing parts
On board, I removed the bad baseboard pieces and although they were discolored, they were in good enough shape to be used as templates. The fridge door panel was another story. It was built into the fridge door which required complete disassembly of the door to access the damaged panel. After gaining access to the panel, I had to cut the glue off of the back side to allow it to be removed.
Fabricate and finish
With the parts in hand, I began fabricating replacement pieces. For the fridge door, I found an area of graining on the sheet of plywood I was using that properly matched up to the existing panel. After the pieces were made and sanded, I started applying the finish. The finish was a high gloss clear coat with a red/orange tone to it. I was able to dial in the color on the parts so that they matched the original finishes. Once the finish cured, I gave it a wet sand and polished it up to a high gloss.
Installation
Installation went quickly and the parts look original to the boat. The fridge door looks like nothing happened and it blends in with the other 3 doors very well.
