Custom Molding Profiles
Need a specific molding or paneling profile? Look no further. Our advanced equipment allows us to replicate even the most intricate designs, from historic reproductions to cutting-edge concepts. Whether you require a common profile in a unique wood species or an entirely custom piece, our skilled craftsmen can bring your vision to life.
About the process
For moldings being created from drawings, we use a CNC to cut out our template that we use in our molding knife grinder. We then cut and balance a pair of knives and mount them in a moulder head on the knife grinder. We then grind the knives to match the template. If you have an existing piece of molding that you’d like replicated, we start with a blank template and shape it to fit your molding. Once we’re happy with the fit of the template, we then grind the knives on our knife grinder.
Short run of custom replicated moldings
The client needed 6 molding profiles matched and made out of cherry. Pictured below is the samples provided by the client, the knives to make each profile, and under the knives, the templates we used to create the knives.
Our profile knife grinder
This is our profile knife grinder in action finishing a rough grind on a tambour profile. On the right side there is a small stylus that follows the template and allows us to grind the knives to exactly match the template. In the video you can see the second knife in the moulder head hasn’t been ground yet.
Custom dowels
This was a job where another millwork company needed 48,000 lineal feet of anigre dowels made in 4 different sizes. Every piece was inspected, cut to length, and sanded before being shipped out.
