Historic Molding Replication

We specialize in historic molding restoration and period profile replication for preservation projects across central and south Florida.  From 1920’s Mediterranean Revival to Victorian-era trim, we document and replicate original profiles with exacting accuracy.  Serving architects, contractors, and preservationists from Orlando to Naples to Stuart.

Original moldings in historic buildings deteriorate, get damaged during renovations, or are missing entirely.  Finding exact replacements is nearly impossible – until now.

Our first step is to expertly document the existing moldings. If you have a sample, we can use that to trace the profile. If the moldings are still installed, we can go to the site and use a contour profile gauge to trace out the shape.

With the drawings of the profile, we can now create a set of knives in the exact shape of the molding.

Next, we source period correct material. We work with a variety of lumber suppliers to locate the correct wood species for the moldings.

We then run the moldings on one of our four moulders. It’s that simple.

The Challenge:
A contractor restoring the historic Bok Tower Gardens visitor center needed to replicate original 1930s door casings and moldings. The existing cypress millwork was severely deteriorated from decades of Florida humidity and sun exposure – rotted, cracked, and structurally compromised.

Our Process:
The contractor provided us with carefully removed intact sections of the original moldings to document the profiles Using precision profile gauges and calipers, we captured every detail of the complex shapes We selected old-growth Cypress to match the original wood species and grain characteristics Our moulders replicated the profiles with exacting accuracy

The Result:
Perfect reproductions that seamlessly integrate with the remaining original millwork. The client couldn’t distinguish new from old once installed and finished.
